Golf Courses on of Hawaii
Of the 20 or so golf courses in of Hawaii most of them are situated on along the Kohala Coast in the north of the island. Many of these courses are on resorts and have wonderful amenities that come up to world class standards.
Designed by golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr, the 18 holes Mauna Kea Golf Course is a very challenging course, made more so by the magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, the snow capped Mauna Kea and the lava beds. Especially challenging is the third hole where a 180-yard tee shot over the ocean is required to reach the 210-yard green for a par 3. Not far away from this course is the Hapuna Golf Course that was built on the side of a large hill with views over the ocean. It boasts brilliant views of the coastline and Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and also the Kohala Mountains. This course is a very environmentally sensitive course and is so ranked by the USGA.

Resort is home to one of the most photographed holes in the world.
The par 3, 196 yard 15th hole requires a tee shot over the ocean
to the green. The north course has a signature hole in the 17th,
which is a 132 yard par three that starts from an elevated tee to
a black lava framed green. This course has many Kiawe trees and
gently undulating hills.

With brilliant green fairways set against sculptured black lave
the Jack Nicklaus designed Haulalai Golf Course is an amazing sight
and has a huge bunker that runs alongside the entire length of the
17th fairway as a true challenge of your golfing abilities. At a
thousand feet above sea level the Waikoloa Village Golf Club has
a breath taking views of the Kohala Coast. Other courses include
the Volcano Golf and Country Club, Kona Country Club and the Makalei
Golf Club.
Most courses have carts and do not allow walking although you may find a few that will let you walk. Dress codes are fairly standard with collared shirts a must on most. Course fees vary starting from around $169 upwards per round. All courses have pro shops where clubs, accessories and other merchandise may be purchased. Each club normally has a resident pro will be available for lessons and clinics. Many of these courses also have either a driving range or practice greens with some boasting both. Those courses not on resorts are normally fairly close to accommodation with most having bar and restaurant facilities.
The Big Island of Hawaii has the perfect climate for a round of golf at any time of year with a long summer stretching from April to November where the average temperature is around 85 degrees F and a short winter, from December to March, which is slightly cooler with temperatures around 75 degrees F. So between the climate and the fantastic views from these beautiful courses, your golf will seem a lot less painful no matter how badly you play.
