Sailing In Hawaii

You can go sailing all over the world, but Hawaii is one of the most popular locations to sail. The water under your sailboat in Hawaii is not better than the water anywhere else in the Pacific Ocean, but the scenery of Hawaii is gorgeous.

Hawaii is very isolated from the rest of the world so the culture, plant life, and scenery are so unique and exotic even if you are used to living in tropical locations. Since Hawaii is driven by tourism there are countless businesses that are aimed at giving tourists a memorable experience.

The charter sailing industry is so competitive in Hawaii that you can expect to find very high quality at prices lower than you might expect.

There is a wide variety of sailboats available in Hawaii either for charter or rent. If you want to go on an extended tour of the Hawaiian Islands, you will find that there are not many options available for charter. Most of the charter sailboats are only available for small trips and tours. If you would like to go on an extended trip around the islands, you may prefer to rent a small sailboat such as a Hobie Cat.

Hobie Cats are small catamaran sailboats designed for personal use. They are very inexpensive to buy compared to other designs and therefore also much cheaper to rent. Hobie Cats are usually designed for racing and are very high performance and not extremely comfortable.

You can also rent a monohull sailboat that will offer more comfort, less performance, and a slightly higher price. Most of the major resorts will offer Hobie Cat renting services.

You can easily find yacht owners at Honolulu harbor that offer trips on their yachts. Since these trips are done on a more casual basis you have more say over where to long and how long the trip is.

Most Hawaiian sailing trips begin or end at the major marinas and ports such as KoOline on Oahu, Honokohau on the Big Island, Lihue on Kauai, and Lahaina on Maui. Poipu and Hanalai Bay on Kauai are also very popular.

Dinner cruises are very popular because they allow visitors to eat some of the best food in Hawaii while sailing around the islands and seeing some great sights. On Oahu most of the dinner cruises set out from Honolulu Harbor and move along Waikiki and Diamond Head.

On Kauai you can sail from Poipu along the Garden Isle, or from Port Allen along Makena Ridge. While on Maui you can set out from Lahaina or Maalaea and view the islands great mountain ranges. While on the Big Island you can view the Kona coast and get a great view of Mauna Loa.

The cost of any Hawaiian sailing trip depends on the type of boat and length of the trip. Renting a boat is the most cost effective solution, but a charter allows you to get more space and usually a guided tour. One to two hour trips usually cost a couple hundred dollars upwards of five hundred dollars. Daylong expeditions can cost around a thousand dollars.

Entertainment and Shows In the Big Island Of Hawaii

The Big island Of Hawaii Entertainment and Shows

A visit to the Big Island of Hawaii would not be complete with a luau and a great place to experience one is at the Royal Kona. Run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings be treated to a traditional Lei Greeting then enjoy a scrumptious all you can eat buffet with open bar. A great show with creative choreography from Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, and New Zealand. Regular prices are around $69 per adult and $26 for children with 5 year olds and younger being free.

Other entertainment includes jazz groups, Hawaiian music and Hula groups in local bars and clubs although some good events are often held at the Kahilu Theatre with all aspects of the performing arts being catered for.

An Evening Under the Stars at Kahua Ranch is a night that you will remember for years to come. Enjoy great food, with equally good entertainment, storytelling and fun activities whilst sitting around a campfire all on the slopes of the Kohala Mountains at an elevations of 3,200 feet. Learn about the history of the area, see the 8,500 acre working ranch and how it came to be. After a meal of sirloin steak, chicken, potatoes, corn on the cob, green salad and baked beans, you will have coffee and then shortly after sunset dessert.

Your entertainment consists of dancing, guitars, learn to rope, play horseshoes or learn to braid. Gaze at the stars through an 8-inch telescope and hear stories told by cowboys as you toast marshmallows on the campfire. The whole evening is only $89 that includes transport from you motel and back as well. Come back during the day to see how the ranch really works!

Naturally there are bars and restaurants dotted all along the coast which have live music of various kinds, dancing and of course karaoke. There are bars and restaurants that have a piano bar and host jazz and blues sessions as well. The Big Island also has the Big Island Comedy Club for those who want a laugh. These performances are weekly at the Royal Kona Resort.

For those who want to experience something a little more traditional the "Twilight at Kalahuipua'a," is a monthly Hawaiian cultural celebration of storytelling, singing, and dancing on the, grassy lawn at Mauna Lani Bay Resort. These nights recreate the times when family and neighbors would gather to sing, dance, and "talk story."

All resorts offer local entertainment in their restaurants, bars and lounges and many events are held poolside. Live music, singing and dancing combined with delicious meals are common place. Some larger resorts offer dinner shows such as the Hilton Waikoloa Village's Legends of the Pacific dinner show on Friday nights at a cost of $72 for adults and $36 for children 5-12.

There is always something to do in the evenings and many events are outdoors due to the beautiful warm climate of the Big Island of Hawaii.
