Heading To Cala Vinas... what you need to know to be prepared

Cala Vinas  (or Cala Vinyes) is in Mallorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands. Majorca is known to be one of the most family-friendly Balearics but there are things to see and do for everyone, regardless of age.

The climate of Cala Vinas incorporates hot, sunny summers with mild, fresh winters. Rainfall is low, especially in the summer. Fall, from October to January, experiences more rainfall than the rest of the year, but is still sunny most days. November is still cool enough to wear a tee shirt in the daytime but you will need a jacket at night. Spring starts in mid February, when the almond trees blossom. July and August are high season and rain is almost unheard of at these times. The sun can be fiercely strong so remember to cover up between 10AM and 2PM or use a high factor sunscreen. From November to February, the temperature ranges from 40ºF to 60ºF. From March to October, you should expect temperatures of 45ºF to 85ºF. In July and August, it rarely drops below 67ºF.

Cala Vinas beach offers plentiful white sand and turquoise sea. It can get very busy at the weekends at peak season. Cala Vinas is a quiet resort but you can walk to Magalluf or Palma Nova in ten minutes. Magalluf offers a great choice in watersports, with everything from banana boats and waterskiing to parascending. There is a water park in Magalluf which also has shows at certain times.

You can also try scuba diving or take a trip on the Nemo Mallorca Submarine. In Calvia, you will find the relatively new Western Park, a cross between a Wild West theme park and an aqua park. Marineland, which is just across from Palma Nova, is a family attraction where you can watch dolphin shows, sea lion shows and parrot shows.

If you are feeling very brave, you might want to try the Magalluf Bungee Rocket Human Catapult. This is only open in the summer and not for the fainthearted!

Nightlife in nearby Magalluf will not let you get bored. There are many bars, pubs and nightclubs open until the small hours of the morning. There is a good choice of restaurants and cuisines range from Spanish to Mexican, Indian or Continental.

The historic city of Palma is twenty minutes away if you want to do some shopping of see the historical cathedral. Take the number fifty sightseeing bus, which runs every twenty minutes, to make sure you see all of the city.

Cala Vinas and the neighboring resorts are relatively safe but do not carry all your money or valuables with you, watch out for pickpockets in busy tourist resorts and don’t forget your sunscreen if you are there in the hot summer months.

Cala Vinas is a picturesque and peaceful resort which is only a few minutes walk from the livelier end of town. The island of Mallorca is not that big and you can easily get around, using public transport, to explore all the interesting spots.
